Setting The Scene With The Right Halloween Fancy Dress

Ever thought of buying your fancy dress costumes instead of hiring? You could save so much and use them again and again.

With Halloween approaching faster than witches can cast their spells, everyone who celebrates with the traditional fancy dress will probably be in a frenzy about which costumes they’re going to wear.

With such an abundance of costumes available, it can be difficult to choose which one to go for sometimes and it always seems so much easier to sort out the rest of the family than your own.

But Halloween is a great way to get your creative juices flowing so let’s take a look at some possibilities for the whole family and let’s not forget our faithful four-legged friend, the dog!!

All the following fancy dress ideas can be found here Fancy Dress Costumes For The Whole Family Including The Dog!!!

FANCY DRESS FOR THE GIRLS – As this is a fancy dress pretty witch site I am putting this theme forward as one of my favourites, and you’ll see why when you go to view them. The fancy dress pretty witch rates as one of the most popular styles of Halloween costume along with the ever loved fairy for those that are looking for a more attractive look this year. Other themes come into play each year with popular films and TV series making characters and themes a must have for the fan. Toy Story and Alice in Wonderland are fine examples.

Traditional super witches costumes look terrific with green face paint, black lips or very deep red for a splash of colour and don’t forget the pointed slippers. Then there is the gothic princess look, Tinkerbell and vampires. Again, for that extra special magic, add the face paint to complete a simply stunning outfit. A splash of glitter dabbed high on the cheek bones just finishes it off. As always, there’s the everlasting cute look with such all-time favourites as Tinkerbell, princesses, Cinderella, Snow White and all manner of other Disney. Television stars Hannah Montana and GI Joe are also going to be hot favourites.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE BOYS – There are, of course, the much-loved traditional superhero costumes and, with the release of another film, Transformers are popular along with Spiderman, Batman, Robin and the Star Wars characters. Harry Potter is up there with Voldemort costumes and face mask, and not forgetting all the extras like Harry’s scarf, glasses and wand, etc for the would-be magicians nor that wonderfully wizardly Professor Dumbledore with his fabulously long beard. For those that wish for the more darker costume, there are always plenty of choices with the classic vampire, ghoul, skeleton, zombie, werewolf, mummy, Dracula, Devil and dark messenger to name a few. Don’t forget all those little extras like the fake blood and wounds, horns and the long fingernails, masks and wigs.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE LADIES – Well, girls, there are lots on offer here so, if it’s hot ‘n‘ sexy you’re after, you’ll find plenty of naughty but nice outfits to choose from.

Sexy Betty Rubble, naughty nun, sexy nurse, prisoner of love, luscious lady bug, dazzling devil, Playboy Bo Peep and Playboy wicked fairy are but a few on the agenda. For a more traditional costume, there is mystic Medusa, zombie prom queen, gothic sorceress, wicked dark fairy, ghost of Marie Antoinette and the ever-popular nurse, police lady, cowgirl, Red Riding Hood, and Alice in Gothland.

Add the wigs and face make-up and glitter and you are dressed to kill.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE LARGER LADY – Ladies, bring out the big, beautiful, sexy you with eskimo cutie, rhinestone cowgirl, police babe, sexy varsity cheerleader, pumpkin patch witch, sexy Scottie, and Roman goddess.

Or you can go for the more traditional. There’s so much choice and those accessories of hats and wigs will make you feel like dazzling the world on Halloween – and don’t forget the face paint and glitter to add that extra oomph.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE TODDLERS – It doesn’t matter what you put your little darlings in as they will receive the inevitable aaaah all night. Cute is strawberry shortcake, baby bee bunting, lady bug tutu, cuddly cub, sugar plum fairy, angel and pretty princess, pumpkin princess, and lil mermaid costumes.

Cute – but with not so much aaaah – are Batman and Robin, banana baby, buzzy bee, Superman, cute pirate, lily pad frog, lil devil, and lil stinker.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE GENTS – Guys can be a bit funny about dressing up so, for those that want easy-to-wear costumes, no problem. How about the simple gambling man, sailor, cowboy, pirate, etc? Add the hats, guns and moustache and you’re away.

For those that don’t mind dressing up, then there’s plenty to go at with the ever popular Dracula, ghastly ghoul, Freddie and zombie to get your teeth into.

Fancy being funny? Then how about Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, the Hulk or Shrek. If you want to be charming, then be Prince Charming or an ever-suave nobleman or Zorro. Just go for it.

FANCY DRESS FOR THE DOG – If you don’t want to leave your pet out, for the small pooch there is the funny hot dog costume!!!

Check out pirate, Jurassic bark dog, watchdog, prisoner dog and harem dog fancy dress just for starters.

For the larger dog, how about rock superstar, mailman dog rider, wonder pets ming-ming duckling and wonder pets turtle tuck.

A large collection is on offer so your pet won’t be in the doghouse.

ARE YOU THROWING A HALLOWEEN PARTY THIS YEAR? then try the following

Must Try Halloween Treats – Perfect food for your halloween party

Spooky Halloween Finger Treats

* 100g caster sugar
* 100g butter
* 1 egg yolk
* 200g plain flour
* ½ tsp vanilla extract
* 20 blanched almonds
* red food colouring, paste is best (optional)

For the freaky fingers, place the first five ingredients and a pinch of salt in a food processor and whizz just until a ball of dough forms. Tear off a golfball-size piece of dough and use your hands to roll into finger-size cylinders – you should get about 20. Place on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment – a little apart as they will spread during baking. Use a knife to make a few cuts, close together, for the knuckles. Place an almond at the end of each finger and trim away excess pastry around the edge to neaten. Place in the fridge for 30 mins, heat oven to 180C/160F/Gas 4, then bake for 10-12 mins just until firm. Leave to cool a little, then paint the almond with food colouring, if you like. Makes 20. Kids’ love em!!!

Spooky Spider Cakes

Ingredients:

* 200g butter , at room temperature
* 200g golden caster sugar
* 200g self-raising flour
* 4 eggs
* tsp baking powder
* 1 tsp vanilla extract
* 6 tbsp chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

To Decorate: Children will have great fun decorating these at Halloween parties

* 2 packs liquorice Catherine wheels
* 12 tbsp Nutella or other chocolate spread
* liquorice allsorts (the black ones with the white centre)
* tube black writing icing
* 1 length red bootlace

Method

1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4 and line a muffin tin with 12 cases, preferably brown ones. Put the butter, sugar and flour in a mixing bowl. Break the eggs into a smaller bowl, taking care not to get any shell into it, then tip on top of the butter mixture.
2. Add the baking powder and vanilla to the larger bowl, then beat with an electric hand whisk until smooth and creamy. Stir in the chocolate drops or chocolate. Spoon the cake mixture evenly into the cases and bake for 20-25 mins until golden – a cocktail stick pushed into the middle of one of the cakes should come out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
3. To decorate the cakes, unravel the liquorice wheels and cut into lengths with scissors to make dangly legs. Stick 8 into the top of each cake, making small cuts with the tip of a sharp knife so they push in really securely.
4. Spoon the chocolate spread on top and spread lightly within the liquorice legs to make a round spider’s body. Now cut the Allsorts to make eyes and the red bootlaces to make mouths, then stick them onto the cakes and dot on the icing to make eyeballs. Will keep for up to 2 days in a cool place.
